The facilities in which we live and work have both long and short term impacts on the overall environment. DMS has been committed since its inception to provide our services in an environmentally responsible manner, and our “Sustainable Services” program is a reflection of that commitment which permeates our various service lines and corporate culture.

Our primary focus in this arena is to minimize the impact we have on the environment by assisting our clients in lowering their carbon footprint and providing an environmentally sound atmosphere by utilizing our Janitorial “HHPC” green cleaning program and our Engineering “Sustainable Operations” program.

Sustainable practices make good business sense and benefit all of the inhabitants of our planet.  In the U.S., facilities use large amounts of energy and water, and transforms land that provides valuable ecological benefits.  Atmospheric emissions from the use of energy lead to acid rain, ground-level ozone, smog, and global climate change. Facilities account for approximately:

• 65.2% of total U.S. electricity consumption
• More than 36% of total U.S. primary energy use
• 30% of total U.S. greenhouse gas emissions
• 136 million tons of construction and demolition waste in the U.S. (approximately 2.8 lbs/person/day)
• 12% of potable water consumption in the U.S.
• 40% (3 billion tons annually) of raw materials used globally
